Tommy Just Got Out - Navigating This New Chapter of Our Lives

Synopsis: Tommy was released from San Quentin in July 2025 after being incarcerated for more than 2 decades. Tommy and Marion will discuss their journey as a married couple: dealing with Tommy's incarceration, the challenges of persuading the Court to uphold the law and resentence Tommy, his recent release, and the path they are now walking together. Community support has been essential in helping them navigate Tommy’s post-release journey.

Our Speakers: 

Tommy Lee Wickerd was sentenced to 57 years in prison after being convicted of voluntary manslaughter.  After serving 23 years he was resentenced to 25 years in prison based on an exceptional conduct recommendation from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.  He was released from San Quentin in July 2025.

During his incarceration Tommy served as President of San Quentin’s 1000 Mile Club, completed 5 marathons, established an American Sign Language class for hearing persons to communicate with deaf or hard-of-hearing inmates, established the 500 Mile Walking Club and earned his GED.  His story has been featured in the documentaries 26.2 to LifeFriendly Signs, and Model Prisons: California's Push for Reform."

Marion Wickerd is a criminal justice reform activist. She has been married to Tommy since 2005.  They met in 1984 and were close friends until both their spouses died in tragic accidents in February 2003 and February 2004, respectively.  Their shared tragedy became a love story through the prison system.
