Not Their Sentence: Supporting Children of the Incarcerated
Synopsis: Our mission at Project Avary is to break generational cycles of parental incarceration and to provide a safe and supportive environment for children who have had, or currently have an incarcerated parent. This session will provide a powerful introduction to a program that is dedicated to creating change with a transformative impact on the lives of children far beyond childhood. Participants will gain insight on the long-term impact of parental incarceration, and why it matters. Resources specifically designed for system-impacted youth using a trauma informed, youth centered approach that fosters healing, and leadership will be provided. This session will equip you with practical tools and deeper understanding to support this often overlooked population. We will discuss opportunities for collaboration, and alternative ways to support youth in underserved communities whether you are a community partner, educator, social worker, advocate, or parent.
